Photolyase from Tardigrades (phrAT)

This is a photolyase that exists in the Tardigrade species Ramazzottius Varieornatus. It was discovered as a homologue to the photolyases that exist in cyanobacteria.


Usage and Biology

Photolyases are proteins that reverse the damage done to DNA by UV-B and UV-C radiation. UV radiation is known to cause thymine dimers in the DNA of organisms, leading to improper DNA replication. Using light energy, photolyases split the dimers, reverting the DNA to its original structure. Sequence and Features
